What are Guided and Expert modes?

AutoMEP has two ways to work, and you can switch between them whenever you like. Your projects, plan and usage are the same in both.

Guided sets up a new project through a chat with the AutoMEP Agent. Drop in your drawing and it asks for what it needs one question at a time: the project name, the job number, where the project is, the trades and codes involved, and what you'd like done first. When you press Submit it creates the project, uploads your drawing and sends your first request. Each project then opens as a conversation, with every request and its result in order and a box at the bottom for the next one.

The AutoMEP Agent is a guided form written as a conversation, so you're answering questions rather than talking to a person. It knows only what you type and pick, and it doesn't look at your drawing while you answer. Your request is planned and carried out after you press Submit, the same way it is in Expert.

Expert is the full dashboard: your project list with folders and stars, the New Project form, and the project page with your files, the request box and your results side by side. Everything works in both modes, and switching never moves anything. Folders and stars are the same in both: star a project or file it in a folder from its menu in Guided's project list (or drag it onto a folder), and Expert shows it starred and in that folder, and the other way round. In Guided, each drawing has its own thread, and the drawing menu in the request box switches between them. Pick Add a drawing there, or drop a file anywhere on the project page, and the AutoMEP Agent asks whether to add it to this project, where it gets its own thread, or to start a new project with it. To send one request to several drawings, open Also run on other drawings under the request box.

To switch, use the Guided and Expert switch in the dashboard's top right corner, at the top of a project page (on a phone, in the account menu there), in Settings, or at the top of the home page. AutoMEP saves the choice to your account. New accounts start in Guided, and accounts made before Guided arrived stay in Expert until you switch. The question mark next to the switch opens a side-by-side comparison of the two, and Settings has the same comparison next to the mode setting.

The light and dark theme is the small icon next to Settings at the bottom of the sidebar: each click moves between Light, Dark and System. Settings has all three side by side.

You can also answer the AutoMEP Agent's questions on the home page before you have an account. Your answers and your drawing stay in your browser, and nothing is uploaded until you sign in. After you confirm your email, sign in on the same device: AutoMEP asks whether to pick up where you left off, uploads your drawing, and offers the free trial if you don't have a plan yet. After checkout you land back in the same chat, ready to press Submit. If your account is in Expert, the dashboard shows a note with a link to continue the chat instead.
