What AutoMEP can't do (and won't do)

AutoMEP changes AutoCAD drawings and Revit models from a request in plain English, and answers questions about them. This page lists what it can't do yet and what it won't do at all, so you know before you upload. When something on the first list becomes possible, it comes off this page.

What AutoMEP can't do yet

Can AutoMEP open DXF, DGN, PDF or IFC files?

No. AutoMEP works on AutoCAD drawings (.dwg) and Revit models (.rvt), and a zip or folder of drawings works too. DXF, MicroStation DGN, PDF, IFC and image files can't be uploaded today, and neither can a DWG saved in a format older than AutoCAD 2007. Save the drawing as a DWG from your CAD program and upload that copy. What file types does AutoMEP support?

Which Revit versions can't AutoMEP work on?

AutoMEP works on Revit 2024, Revit 2026 and Revit 2027 models. A Revit 2025 model can only be worked on after it's upgraded to Revit 2026, and AutoMEP asks before it does that. Models saved in Revit 2023 or earlier can't be opened, so save the model from a supported release and upload that copy. An .rvt file with no Revit model inside, such as an empty or half-copied file, is refused at upload. Does AutoMEP support Revit files?

Is there a limit on how big a drawing can be?

Yes. Very large files can't be uploaded, and a drawing too big for AutoMEP to read in one pass is refused, with your usage returned. Rewording the request doesn't help, because the whole drawing is read either way. Splitting it into one floor or one area per file does. My drawing was refused as too large

Can AutoMEP fix a damaged or corrupted DWG?

No. When a drawing is damaged badly enough that it won't open cleanly, AutoMEP refuses jobs on it before they start, so nothing from your plan is used. Repair it in AutoCAD with RECOVER and then AUDIT, save it, and upload the saved copy. My project page says AutoCAD can't open my drawing

Can AutoMEP check for clashes between trades?

No. AutoMEP doesn't compare one trade's drawing with another's, find where ducts, pipes, conduit and structure run into each other, or check clearances. Coordination still happens in your own review. Once that review settles what has to move, AutoMEP can make the change. Can AutoMEP coordinate my drawings?

Can one request coordinate work across several drawings or floors?

Not yet. Each job reads and changes one drawing. You can send the same request to several drawings in a project, but each one is planned on its own, so work that has to line up between levels, like a riser landing in the same spot on two floors, needs checking by you. If you ask for something on a floor that lives in another drawing, AutoMEP does this drawing's share and tells you to ask on that one. Can one request change several drawings at once?

Can AutoMEP turn AutoCAD drawings into a Revit model?

No. AutoMEP edits each file in its own format. It doesn't build a Revit model from DWG drawings, and it doesn't carry changes from a DWG into a Revit model. A Revit job does give you an exported DWG and a PDF of the result alongside the edited model. Does AutoMEP support Revit files?

Can AutoMEP make 3D views or renders of a DWG?

Not yet. AutoMEP draws isometric views of runs already in your drawing as flat 2D projections on a new layout tab. Full 3D views and renders of an AutoCAD drawing aren't available. Can AutoMEP create isometric views?

Can AutoMEP work out invert levels and pipe slopes on its own?

Not from a flat drawing. Give it the invert levels or the slope and it writes the annotations on the drain run, but it doesn't yet calculate them from the geometry of a 2D plan. Can AutoMEP run hot and cold water piping?

Does AutoMEP do heating, cooling or electrical load calculations?

No. It sizes ducts and pipes from published tables using the airflow, flow or fixtures in your request, and when you leave out an airflow it picks a reasonable value and tells you what it assumed. It doesn't run heating and cooling loads, energy models or electrical load calculations, so treat a layout as a starting point for your own numbers. Can AutoMEP size ducts and pipes for me?

Can AutoMEP write specifications or design reports?

No. It changes drawings and answers questions about them. Written specifications, narrative design reports and anything else that doesn't belong on the drawing are outside what it produces. It does draw schedules, legends and a bill of materials into the drawing, and the bill of materials counts what's drawn: it doesn't price items or match your own BOQ codes. Can AutoMEP generate a Bill of Materials?

What can AutoMEP do in AutoCAD that it can't do in Revit yet?

In a Revit model it doesn't yet add dimensions, hatching, revision clouds or a bill of materials table, and your uploaded CAD standards and title blocks apply to DWG drawings only. A new Revit sheet uses a title block that's already loaded in the model. To count things in a Revit model, ask a question instead, such as how many light fixtures are on a level. Does AutoMEP support Revit files?

Can AutoMEP convert my existing drawing to our CAD standard?

Not yet. Your CAD standard shapes the new work AutoMEP draws. It doesn't rename the layers already in your drawing, restyle its existing text, bring in dimension styles, or apply to the drawings yours links to. It can swap existing symbols for your own when you ask. Can AutoMEP draw to my office's CAD standard?

Can I share an AutoMEP project with a teammate?

Not inside AutoMEP yet. Each person signs in to their own account, and their projects stay in it. To pass work on, download the file and send it the way you normally would.

Does AutoMEP work inside AutoCAD or Revit?

No. AutoMEP runs in your web browser, and there's no add-in to install. You upload the file, and the result comes back as a file that opens in AutoCAD or Revit.

Does AutoMEP offer SAML single sign-on or a SOC 2 report?

Not today. You can sign in with an email and password, Google or Microsoft, but there's no SAML sign-in or automatic user provisioning (SCIM). AutoMEP doesn't hold a SOC 2 report or an ISO 27001 certificate. The security documents it does have are listed in the security article. Is my drawing secure?

What AutoMEP won't do

Will AutoMEP stamp or seal my drawings?

No. AutoMEP doesn't stamp, seal or sign drawings, doesn't check code compliance for your jurisdiction, and doesn't replace review by a licensed professional. Naming the table a size came from tells you which reference was used and says nothing about whether the installation complies. Treat every result as a draft from a capable assistant that the engineer of record still checks. AutoMEP is AI and can make mistakes

Will AutoMEP answer general questions?

No. It changes the drawing or model you uploaded and answers questions about that file. General knowledge, coding help, other software, and code or standards questions asked in the abstract get a polite no, and no usage is spent. A good test: if the answer would be the same without your file, AutoMEP isn't the place to ask. What can I ask AutoMEP to do?

Will AutoMEP overwrite my original drawing?

No. The file you upload is never changed. Every job writes a new version, so you can always go back to what you sent.

Will AutoMEP change my linked drawings (xrefs)?

No. It reads linked drawings for their walls and room names and edits only the drawing you asked about. It doesn't bind, attach or detach your links either, so the drawing you get back links to them the way it did before. Can I upload my linked drawings as separate files?

Will AutoMEP make up equipment data it wasn't given?

No. It won't invent panel schedules or equipment data you didn't supply. When a detail is only missing, such as an airflow, it picks a reasonable value, does the work and tells you what it assumed. If a result holds a number you didn't give it and can't trace, treat it as a placeholder. AutoMEP is AI and can make mistakes

Will AutoMEP upgrade my Revit model without asking?

No. A newer Revit file can't be opened in an older release, so AutoMEP never upgrades a model on its own. Your model comes back in the release you sent. AutoMEP offers one upgrade, from Revit 2025 to Revit 2026, and makes it only if you agree. Does AutoMEP support Revit files?

Does AutoMEP train AI on my drawings or share them?

No. Your drawings aren't used to train AI models, they aren't handed to an outside drafting team, and only your account can open your projects. The providers that store and process them are listed on the Terms page. Is my drawing secure?
